In their last lap towards adulthood, Cicada nymphs crawl out of the ground to take on the life’s next big challenge – finding a partner.  But wait, they’re not ready to take on the dating game yet. The nymphs have to undergo one final physical transformation: to break out of the childish outfit of yesterday’s and don on a fresh new suit with wings to pursue the ladies (and men).

With no need for the old “clothes”, the exuvia (remains of exoskeleton after moulting) is left behind, still clinging on the tree trunk.
